Product Description
GPS ANGEL is an accurate and affordable GPS-based red light camera & speed camera detector. GPS Angel uses GPS satellite technology to determine your vehicle's current position, compares it to an on-board database of thousands of known red light camera locations and speed camera locations in the United States and Canada, and then alerts you in advance with visual and audible alarms when you are near a camera. It works right out of the box - just plug it into your cigarette lighter and place on your dashboard (optional rechargeable battery accessory provides up to 8 hours of cordless use). GPS Angel includes free unlimited access and updates to the #1 national red light camera locations and speed camera locations database. New cameras are being added to the database all the time and you can download updates for free using your Windows PC (does not work on Mac OS) and the included sync cable and be protected for no additional charge. Other GPS radar detector products typically charge a subscription fee for database updates - which can be over $100 per year - making GPS Angel the most affordable red light camera & speed camera locator on the market. Browse or search the camera map at GPS Angel web site. Typical red light camera and speed camera tickets can be more than $300. Don't take any chances. You'll drive safer, avoid tickets, and protect your license. GPS Angel pays for itself after helping you avoid just one ticket!

GPS Angel V4E Red Light and Speed Camera Detector just beeps and flashs lights when it wants to. It seems to detect some traffic lights but not all traffic lights. I would not recommend the GPS Angel V4E to detect speed cameras or red lights. I thought it was the ideal product as advertise.

A Colorado TV news group tested the device in Denver. It performed very well for stoplight cams. But it failed to alarm at mobile photo cams not in their database.

Takes about 10 minutes to find signal. Tested and found camera. Overall a great investment if you are thinking about purchasing just buy it. In California their are tons of red light cameras. Think of it this way it for eight bucks you could save thousands of dollars ,because you must take into account. These tickets are not cheap. This device saved me twice.A+ product

5 out of 5 stars A Great Addition   December 8, 2009

Got my GPS Angel recently and like it very much. First of all, it's just tiny - about 2.5 inches wide. It also doesn't look like anything someone would want to steal because no one would know what it is. The cord is long and not the curly type, so I was able to fully conceal it from view. It gives both visual and audible warnings of red light and speed cameras. It is supposed to alert near school zones, but it's missed a couple of times. No biggie for me. It can take a minute or so to acquire the GPS signal, but once connected I've had no problems unless going under an overpass or some such obstruction. then the signal comes right back. I especially like being able to add "points of interest": You press one of the kidney shaped buttons on top and it adds that location to the database. Perfect for known speed traps. Also, there was no set up time. It worked right out of the box. And get this, online updates are free for life! So it's a great value at purchase time and over the life of the unit.

As I understand it, due to budget crunches in communities accross the country, police forces are being reduced - mostly in the traffic divisions. In their place, more red light and speed cameras are being installed all the time. They are cheap (and in some cases free) for communities to acquire and operate, they generate a steady revenue stream, they work 24 hours a day, everyday, with no days off, and they are infalliable.

I've heard the database is not 100% up to date. Fine, that may be so. I'll still take 90% - 95% protection for a one time charge for a lifetime. Woundn't you?

1 out of 5 stars Worthless!   October 7, 2009

Worthless!

Takes more than a minute to acquire satellites on a clear day and just about never on an overcast/raininy day.
Frequently loses satellites on tree lined streets.

Not able to control alerts enough to use in a city that has cameras at just about every other intersection. In other words, it is still warning you about the last camera and when the next is encountered.

Is proximity based, so goes off if near a camera and not if approaching.

Basically unusable and unreliable.
