Has saved me some money July 9, 2010 M. W. Anderson (Redmond, WA United States) I've been using radar detectors almost continously since about 1993. They have collectively saved me from many potential tickets. While they can't replace the need to keep alert with your eyes, they are a great aide. The 965 is the best I've owned. Previous Bel models I have have been good, but this one is a cut above. The number of false positives is greatly diminished, its pretty quiet. When driving down to California last fall, I was coming down a steep hill at about 80 (65 zone) and there was another car in the next lane just a little behind me. My Ka band alert went off and I quickly jabbed the brakes going down to 70 quickly. The copy was still about half a mile ahead in the valley. The guy in the other car kept right on going and by the time I got down there, he was getting a ticket.
Remember, there is still almost no defense against Laser except your eyes. If you go around a blind corner and there is a cop with a laser there, you are pretty much done for.
Good radar June 30, 2010 Txel (Orlando, FL) Advises with plenty of time. Gets many false alarms too. Expect noise when you drive in front of a store with sensor doors.
Beltronics V965 May 23, 2010 William P. Toney Jr. (NC) Works great and very sensitive. Not many false alarms. Coiled power cord was not what I wanted in my car... so I ordered another one from Beltronics. I really don't like the mute feature on this unit, it only stays muted for a short while and then reverts back to "loud".
Setup is ok... but I found it difficult to setup. Yea - I had to read the book. It's loud and the talk feature is extra loud... I finally turned that off.
Reviews said it's a great radar detector... maybe so, but I would not buy Beltronics the next time around.
High end radar detector April 25, 2010 A. Khan (Austin, TX United States) I've used Whistler in the past and its a good radar detector but the alerts would come in way too late. I ended up giving my radar detector up to my brother but after three tickets, it was time to get a new one. After research I narrowed my choices to three name brands Escort, Beltronics and Valentine One and I finally decided to go with the Beltronics 965 due to the features it offered and price. I'm happy I did, I've been saved several times, my friend has a Valentine One and we've both noticed the 965 is just as sensitive. On the plus side, the voice notifications are really helpful and I think compared to the other detectors, the Beltronics is a lot nicer looking as well. From what I've read, it looks like the 965 has been phased out and replaced with the lesser 955 (the detection distance for the 955 is a lot less than that of the 965), if I was willing to spend more I'd go with the 995 but I would not purchase the 955 over the 965. It's sad to see that amazon does not directly sell the 965 anymore.
Works Good! March 26, 2010 A. Mukherjee (NJ) This is my first radar detector and it has made me very happy so far! I just wish it didn't have too many false alarms though. But when it comes to detecting cops it has not failed once yet. It has very good range. This is good for the money!
