it's the same cord but shorter than what comes standard with the unit.
suction cup works, but is larger than the ones that come standard.
no point to picking this up

4 out of 5 stars Very Expensive Compared to Functionality   July 16, 2010

The only reason I have the above 2 accessories is that my Solo that I used for over 10 years became subject to the same issue as my previous Solo that lasted for about 6 years. The problem is that as the units got older the On/Off switch would stop working when exposed to the sun coming through the winshield during the summer. I figured 10 years was long enough Zfor the unit to remain working accurately and while the Solo did not prevent me from getting some tickets, they were because of instant-on radar used in unmarked cars. I never got a ticket on the highway/interstate by a marked car when my Solo had given its usual instantaneous notice. I drive pretty fast, (occasionally 150 mph+ when there are few other cars around). So three tickets of relatively small amounts over 16-17 years tells me that my Solos are working and saving me money. (I should point out to my local police department that I would no longer think of exceeding the speed limit because I have seen the folley of my ways and that my radar detector is only used to remind me to check my speedometer should an alarm go off.) That was a quick take on the Solo. But that is not the product to be reviewed

When I bought the next replacement Solo it was being offered with a no cost bonus of the newly designed windshield suction mount and a power cord that will give warning signals on the plug that fits into your 12V outlet or cigarette lighter outlet and you can turn off the lighted warnings on your winshield unit.

I suppose the power cord with its built in warnings is pretty cool if you are driving in VA which is a no radar detector state. Otherwise, why try to hide your detector. It can only indicated to a cop that you have objective evidence of your speed when you have not been speeding. So, the use of the cord for me is just incase I have run down the batteries and forgot to replace them. Since the Solo only takes 2 AA batteries that last (unscientifically) a long time. (2-3 mos or generally $4-$6 per year.)

I have mixed thoughts about the new single suction windshield mount compare to the standard mount that comes with the detector. The new mount is bigger and causes the detector to protrude further into the cockpit where it may be easier to reach. I have not tried to change the place of mounting which has been a little above the level of the at rest windshield wipers in the center of the windshield. It is important that the detectors front and back is not blocker because that is where the censors are. The new mount takes up more room but between it an the standard mount that comes with all detectors, you may be able to find a better position within your car to mount the detector.

The bottom line is that neither accessory will change the performance of your detector unless using it gives the detector a bigger view of the road ahead or behind without impairing your normal vision of thos areas. Initial trials of alternative placements has reduced my visability from the driver's seat.

To summarize, I found both of these accessories provide some increase in Solo usability, and in my opinion they should be supplied as accessories when you purchase the Solo. I am reasonably sure that the sale of the Solo at a modestly higher provide given the high margins on the sale of Solo's the price would not have to be increased so much as to hurt sales and may even have increased sales because of the additional functionality.

However, it would be very difficult for me to even attempt to justify the $50 cost for these two accessories independent of a significant reduction in purchase price for the Solo itself. The Solo is a very good product that already earns a large price in the market. There has been only 2 models of the Solo sold in 20 years or so. It is a good
