Product Description
GPS ANGEL is an accurate and affordable GPS-based red light camera & speed camera detector. GPS Angel uses GPS satellite technology to determine your vehicle's current position, compares it to an on-board database of thousands of known red light camera locations and speed camera locations in the United States and Canada, and then alerts you in advance with visual and audible alarms when you are near a camera. It works right out of the box - just plug it into your cigarette lighter and place on your dashboard (optional rechargeable battery accessory provides up to 8 hours of cordless use). GPS Angel includes free unlimited access and updates to the #1 national red light camera locations and speed camera locations database. New cameras are being added to the database all the time and you can download updates for free using your Windows PC (does not work on Mac OS) and the included sync cable and be protected for no additional charge. Other GPS radar detector products typically charge a subscription fee for database updates - which can be over $100 per year - making GPS Angel the most affordable red light camera & speed camera locator on the market. Browse or search the camera map at GPS Angel web site. Typical red light camera and speed camera tickets can be more than $300. Don't take any chances. You'll drive safer, avoid tickets, and protect your license. GPS Angel pays for itself after helping you avoid just one ticket!

2 out of 5 stars pretty lousy unit - especially the software - MANY 5 STAR REVIEWS LOOK FAKE   August 22, 2010

This is a nice concept, but it isn't executed very well. I ordered two of these - one I updated with the company's software before use, the other I just kind of let it fly with, since the claim is that it will work 'right out of the box.'

First off, the software is really awful. It's not the easiest thing in the world to go through a USB port search, identify a device Windows doesn't really recognize as native, and write information to it - but at the same time, it's not a really tough operation either. Flash drives do it flawlessly every day. On the one hand this is an analog device, but on the other - how tough would it be to utilize a digital intermediary with some firmware built directly into the unit to make the port search unnecessary in the first place? Everyone else does it.

In fact, the software was so bad at finding the device, that it only found one of my two units (ordered one for me, one for a family member), and that's the only reason I even attempted to use the second one without an initial update. The software worked for the first device, and then when I tried to get it to recognize the second it just locked up the computer (running Windows Vista, quad core processor, 8 gigs of ram - believe me, it wasn't a lack of system resources). I restarted, and the computer wouldn't make it past the system checks on boot up. I cold booted to no effect. I had to unplug and dissipate static and other lingering data from the unit before I could even boot again. I then tried the software again. Same result. I then uninstalled the software, cold-booted, then reinstalled. Same effect. At this point it wouldn't recognize the first device again either (tried everything).

I didn't feel like searching my registry to find exactly what the entry was, nor did I think I would be able to. All the online help consisted of was a blowup of the instruction manual (3 mini pages), and some rigamarole about using primary USB ports instead of split units. Well, again, none of that worked.

So I decided to try both units anyway. The unit I had been able to update actually worked fine. The unit I hadn't been able to update didn't recognize a single speed or red light camera. Contrary to advertisement, they do not come ready to use out of the box. Throw that one out - let me tell you about the first unit.

It worked fine, like I said - but it didn't come with any kind of sticky pad to keep it affixed to the dash. What it did come with was an anti-slip gel pad, which was insufficient. It still moved a good bit and rotated whenever I turned the car.

The build quality was low - a coupla buttons (if you dared to press one of them the device flew off the non-slip pad), and cheap looking plastic.

The cord was the best made part of the unit. It combined a USB head with a car 12v jack that the head could plug into.

In all, the reason I gave the item 2 stars was this: That software was awful to the point that I doubted I'd ever be able to update the unit properly again without a whole lot of hassle. Secondarily, the price versus performance is appalling. For $90, you can get other units that look better, perform just as well, and presumably have better software since they're made by more reputable companies. Forget that - add another 50-80 bucks and you can get a unit that detects radar and laser too. Add another 50-80 to that and you can get a premium combo unit, which is the route I decided to go.

I wouldn't buy this again. I was hoping it would work for me and my family members since New Orleans has exploded with fixed location cameras, but it was not the case. End of story analysis is that you need to spend just a little bit more to get the effect you're looking for. Another possibility would be to get a dedicated GPS device that could give you directions and maps and such and you could mark points of interest on that and get the same effect once you determined the locations of different cameras. In any event, this item for nearly a hundred bucks is at best a 2 star item.

This product woorks as it was designed to do.
It warns when you approach a traffic signal
(Red Light Camera)at too high a rate of
speed,in plenty of time to safely stop.

Probably even better it detects the hidden
cameras, the light traps (short amber lights).

Really, really satisfied so far.

GPS Angel V4E Red Light and Speed Camera Detector just beeps and flashs lights when it wants to. It seems to detect some traffic lights but not all traffic lights. I would not recommend the GPS Angel V4E to detect speed cameras or red lights. I thought it was the ideal product as advertise.

A Colorado TV news group tested the device in Denver. It performed very well for stoplight cams. But it failed to alarm at mobile photo cams not in their database.

Takes about 10 minutes to find signal. Tested and found camera. Overall a great investment if you are thinking about purchasing just buy it. In California their are tons of red light cameras. Think of it this way it for eight bucks you could save thousands of dollars ,because you must take into account. These tickets are not cheap. This device saved me twice.A+ product
